Stoneville Fires of 12th January 2014

This page contains photographs of the area affected by the Stoneville (Perth, Western Australia) fires of 12th January 2014.

I live in the area and while we were unable to return to our home for some days after the fire, were fortunate conditions were such that our house and property was not damaged by the fire. Many others (54 at last count) were not so lucky.

As a photographer the scenery after the fires has appealed as a photographic target. However as a local and who I am, I am hesitant to photograph the affected areas, especially any damage to personal belongings or property. As such my photographs focus on the effect of the fires upon the natural landscape of Stoneville, and are from a couple of weeks after the fires went through.

I will continue adding photographs to this page as I process and capture more.

Stoneville Fires of 12th January 2014. This photograph shows a particularly hot area in the fire, where he trees are black with no leaves right to the top. The understory is completely burnt and after two weeks show no sign of regrowth (as compared to less hot areas which have significant regrowth already). Seven homes were destroyed just to right of frame.
