Milky Way Eastern Portrait

Milky Way Eastern Portrait

At the right time of the year (May) the Milky Way is like a grand pillar of light rising from the eastern horizon.

Here in this astrophotograph I have tried to capture the enormity and pressence of the Milky Way standing tall having just risen from the horizon. Below the Milky Way to give scale you can see astronomers in the foreground using telescopes, slightly lit by red light.

The field of view shown in this photograph is enormous, it is taken with a wide fisheye lens (Canon 8-15 F/4L) and encompasses a field from the horizon and foreground overhead and beyond towards the west.
