I had the opportunity today to photograph some rough weather at Canal Rocks in the south-west of Western Australia. Winds were gusting through at up to 80km/hr throughout the day, making for quite a rough ocean!
I often think I am a person of compromises. I often compromise the perfect photo for one reason or another. In this case over the question of safety. I wonder if it was safe for the people to be standing on the bridge and far side of the bridge when it was common for waves to wash over the bridge a little. If it is common for waves to do that then surely the possibility of a double height wave washing completely over the bridge taking a person with it is not unthinkable and hence not worth the risk? Of course there was a shot I wanted to get from those vantage points, but I chose not to. My loss? We’ll never know!
